ESTATE TAX UPDATE

The federal estate tax was repealed for 2010, but is back in 2011. The new law, effective for 2011 & 2012, includes a unified estate and gift tax exemption of $5 million (indexed to inflation in $10,000 increments beginning in 2012) and a maximum rate of 35%.
