Stephan Schiffman, the founder of D.E.I., is the author of more than twenty books on the subject, and is recommended by the likes of Anthony Robbins and Zig Ziglar. Regarded as "America´s Nº. 1 corporate sales trainer," Schiffman, whose offices are in New York City, had been president of a major fundraising organization until he started D.E.I. as a home-based business 26 years ago. As is the case with many successful businesses, the strategic focus of the start-up changed several times until Schiffman made the decision to play to his strengths and develop D.E.I. as a sales-training company.
The company´s growth was quick and it wasn´t long until Schiffman became recognized as the nation´s leading expert in prospecting techniques¡Xthe process of identifying potential customers. Schiffman has written more than 20 best-selling books on sales techniques and is a frequent guest on national radio and television shows.
The rapid growth of D.E.I.´s franchise system during the past two years has been similarly impressive. Today, D.E.I. has 33 franchisees in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, Germany and South Africa. D.E.I. expects to award 40 franchises in 2005 and to sell out its U.S. quota of 90 franchises by 2007. It is one of a few nationally franchised companies in the $7.6 billion sales training industry.
According to Bookbinder, D.E.I. appeals to prospective franchise owners who are typically between 35 and 50 years old. They have enjoyed successful sales careers within their company and have likely been promoted to a management position.
"They feel they´ve proven themselves, but feel unrewarded by their companies," Bookbinder said.
