Kip Hayden of Hoop Camp revitalized his marketing efforts with a new domain name from 1&1 Internet. You can follow Kip’s lead and get a new domain name, too. Here is the story of how Hoop Camp got a new domain name.
Kip Hayden is a co-camp director at Hoop Camp, a non-profit organization focusing on basketball for adults and children with special needs.
Hayden needed a domain name that was as unique as their organization. After 20 years of operation, he wanted a permanent domain solution.
The .camp new generic top-level domain, currently available for registration through 1&1 Internet Inc. is the perfect solution for Hayden. Hoop.Camp provides the camp with a more relevant and simpler domain name.
New Domain Name
20 years ago, Steve Garrity founded an event called Hoop Camp for adults and children with special needs. Since it was created, the organization has evolved into a unified event where traditional athletes can participate side-by-side with special needs athletes of all ages. Garrity and Kip Hayden, camp directors for Hoop Camp, are very proud of how the organization has grown.
“Organized and run exclusively by volunteers, Hoop Camp has logged over 25,000 volunteer hours since it was founded in 1994. This unified format and a 100% volunteer organization makes Hoop Camp the most unique basketball camp in the nation,” Hayden said.
The camp teaches all of the fundamental basketball drills, such as passing, shooting, ball handling and dribbling, as well as exciting contests. Teams of 8-10 campers are supervised by coaches as they play each other in games each day.
With the continued growth and success of Hoop Camp, the organization decided that an updated and improved Web presence would be a great way to expand and reach more special needs athletes.
“We have been redesigning our website and needed a domain that is as unique as our organization,” Hayden said. “This year will be our 21st year of camp and we have had to change domain names a few times over the years. We look forward to a permanent domain at hoop.camp. We hope this will help as we seek out sponsors and look to expand the services we provide.”
For an organization founded on providing services to adults and children with special needs, any opportunity to reach potential sponsors and donations is key. These added recourses will allow Hoop Camp to continue to provide an exceptional level of service to all that attend. Hayden is hopeful that the new domain name is a step in the right direction.
The new hoop.camp domain name, which is more closely aligned with the official name of the non-profit organization, will replace the original bballcamp.net domain currently in use.
“For us, we feel that our online presence is heavily influenced by our domain name. There is a kind of perception that if it’s not a .com or .org, then it’s not very official. I think the new TLDs will shift perception as more and more businesses adopt these new TLDs,” Hayden said.
