Every small business needs to build traffic, but promotions and ads can be costly. There are easy, lowcost ways to generate interest in your small business and bring more customers to your door: recurring promotions. They can take just about any form from a casual “Happy Hour” to a month long plan of activities to celebrate any event from a fun Summer is Here Festival and fall’s Ocktoberfest to the more serious Black History Month or Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
They can focus on special holidays, themed months or even a day of the week. Consider the following schedules:
o Ladies Day at the local golf course, car wash, etc.
o Thursday is Double Entree Day–buy one get the second half-off–this can translate to any business from a local sporting goods store to a hair salon offering manicures.
o Host a half-price sale for one hour.
o Join in with your community if they are hosting a ‘First Night’ celebration or other event–stay open for extra hours and cash in.
o Offer live entertainment and serve punch or cider every Sunday from 2 to 4 pm.
Come up with ideas that are appropriate to your small business. They don’t have to cost a lot and you can involve local community groups, artists and musicians who are happy to participate in exchange for the free publicity.
