We recently asked our visitors to send us stories on their small businesses. Here is the first installment in our “Meet American Dream Entrepreneurs” series: David Geyra tells how he and Daniel Rush founded PLASTIC CARD CITY. Thanks, David and Dan for sharing your story with us. In David’s words:
“Two over the hill guys find themselves out of work. When they realize their chances of finding a job are very slim they decide to pool their years of experience and knowledge and open their own company. And so, in 2010 Plastic Card City was born.
“The objective of the new company was to create marketing tools for small businesses based on loyalty, rewards and gift card programs. The combined effort of me, David Geyra, and my partner, Daniel Rush, covers card and key tag design, card printing and software development for tracking as well as the marketing and sales aspects of the company.
“With the current economic woos effecting small businesses the company needed to be able to offer attractive low cost solutions to small retailers that help them compete with large box stores. The goal was for Plastic Card City to be a small business as far as expenses go and at the same time have a marketing reach covering the entire US.
“Three years later, Plastic Card City’s business motto became “Keep It Simple” and to find the correct balance between utilizing and learning new technology, navigating the ever changing Google algorithms, keeping running costs low and offering good old personal, hand holding customer service. We understand that our customers’ desire a quality product for an affordable price.
“We vary from other plastic card manufacturers in that not only do we offer custom graphics, designs and printing, but also an original software package that allows our customers to run their rewards, gift card and loyalty programs without going through expensive processors. Our product is simple and best of all, cost effective.
“Dan and I run our Nanuet, New York operations with a minimal staff. And although the company is only three years old, it has proven itself to be extremely profitable. We have created a successful small business using our combined sixteen years’ experience in plastic card printing and many more years of experience in marketing and advertising companies as well as print production and software development.
“Like most entrepreneurs know, starting your own business does not come without its difficult moments. I developed what I call “the elegant solution” for moments like these. The solution exists on the ideal that when attempting to make things better, always remember to keep them simple. Providing your customer with a quality product that is easy to use is pivotal.
