Paradoxos is a unique event created to showcase the best of what Durham, NC (and the surrounding region) has to offer – including a rising creative and diverse community encompassing business (big and small) music, food, beer and more.
Where Durham was once dominated by a single industry, the area now depends on the flourishing of many. Encompassing everything from music to technology and food to pharmaceutical, what unites this area today is a shared willingness to dream big and a determination and collaboration to turn those dreams into reality. That transformation has helped the city earn a growing list of accolades from national publications and organizations, including “ tastiest town in the south”, “America’s smartest cities”, and “best city for small business”.
This unprecedented convergence of creativity and collaboration will culminate in a two-day event on June 6th and 7th, and will feature presentations from business and creative thought leaders, investor pitches from entrepreneurs, and a block party featuring local musical talent, breweries and food trucks.
“Durham has such a unique combination of qualities, making it the ideal place for us to build a technology accelerator. It is those same qualities that continue to draw more businesses, large and small to this region. While this region isn’t exactly a secret, we have been way too humble about what we have to offer. Its about time we show it off,” explained Chris Heivly, managing director, Triangle Startup Factory.
“We want to plant the best creative and entrepreneurial minds in a cool downtown space and see what happens. When you add in Durham’s great food, beer, and music that’ll be on display, this festival will be part spectacle and part community building—ripe for new ideas. We want to create an event that brings together the diverse talents from across the community and make everyone feel at home,” added Adam Klein, chief strategist, The American Underground.
While Paradoxos 2013 is the inaugural event, the goal is to grow this collaborative event into an important centerpiece in the effort to converge the worlds of tech, food, music throughout the Triangle and Southeast U.S.
A number of local entrepreneur and business-focused organizations have joined forces to create this event. Hosting organizations include Downtown Durham Inc., The American Underground, The Council for Entrepreneurial Development, The Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, and Triangle Startup Factory. Other sponsors include All About Beer Magazine, Crossroads Public Relations, Pretty Fab PR, Republic Wireless, Smashing Boxes and The PARAGRAPH Project.
