High-Growth Small Biz Gets A Boost

High-Growth Small Businesses Get A Boost With The Re-Authorization Of The SBIR Program:

After many short-term reauthorizations, the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program was reauthorized by Congress in late 2011 for six years. SBA quickly took action, soliciting feedback from small businesses, investors and other stakeholders to implement the legislation and get more dollars into the hands of high-tech firms more quickly. This is part of SBA’s efforts to streamline and simplify eligibility requirements so small firms – like Qualcomm, Genzyme, and iRobot did years ago – can get the funding they need to succeed. SBIR creates a win-win situation for federal agencies looking to meet research and development (also known as R&D) goals and helps provide more access and opportunity for innovative, high-growth start-ups to grow and create jobs.
