According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, massage therapists in the U.S. make $17 an hour but that fee zooms to $41 an hour in Alaska where there aren’t many of these trained professionals. Business in booming and jobs are expected to grow 20% by 2018. Nearly half of all massage therapists are self-employed and according to a Gallup-Heathways pool, massage therapy business owners are the happiest. There are opportunities for massage therapy entrepreneurs in spas, salons, cruise ships, resort destinations and doctor’s offices.
