Consumers Return To Credit Cards Once Again

[ 0 ] Sep. 6, 2011 | SBO Editor

Credit was used more than all other payment types for the second consecutive month in June, as consumers increasingly have been purchasing non-discretionary goods on credit, according to First Data Corp.’s SpendTrend report for June 2011.

The privately held Sandy Springs, Ga.-based electronic payments company reported year-over-year dollar volume growth rose 8.8 percent in June, up from May’s 6.6 percent growth rate. Inflation has driven core prices higher, First Data noted, as June average ticket growth was 2.1 percent — the largest increase in more than a year.
