1 & 1 Internet is a globally green Web host, using renewable energy to host all website services in an effort to offset the
company’s carbon emissions. The company’s global initiatives save over 30,000 ton’s of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The following methods are currently in place to achieve 1 & 1’s goal to sustain a healthy environment:
~Reducing Energy: Since the start of 1 & 1’s first data center nearly 20 years ago, the company has been using highly efficient power supplies with less than 20% heat loss, as well as omitting any unnecessary components within the servers.
~Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs): 1 & 1 has partnered with Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) to offset 100% of the energy usage of the data center in Lenexas, Kansas through the purchasing of RECs. The majority of the RECs are sourced from the Bowersock Mills and Power Company’s hydroelectric facility in Lawrence, Kansas. The RECs purchased is enough clean energy to power at least 300 U.S. homes for one year.
~Green Power partner: Through 1 & 1’s partnership with the BEF, the EPA recognizes the company as a Green Power Partner.
~Paperless Billing: All billing statements re sent to customers via e-mail.
~Responsible Office Practices: The corporate offices participate in community recycling programs and use reusable kitchen items, as opposed to paper or plastic cup and utensils.
1 & 1 customers have the opportunity to show how they support green Web hosting by displaying the 1 & 1 Green Logo on their website.
